The data of this data set is derived from the World Natural Atlas, which is a major research achievement of the Soviet Bureau of Surveying, Mapping and Cartography. The atlas has been recompiled using the updated 1954 world map. For each continent, it is displayed with the same mapping standard. The scale of each continent's soil map is between 1:10 million and 1:25 million. The soil classification of the map is based on the former Soviet Union's geographico-genetic classification.
