This dataset is a global historical environmental dataset. It provides the update and expansion of the global environmental history database (HYDE, v 3.2.1). HYDE is a combination of the latest historical population estimates and land use. The categories include farmland, and a new distinction has been made between irrigated and rain fed crops (except rice) and irrigated and rain fed rice crops. It also provides pastures, which are divided into more intensive pastures, transformed pastures and unconverted natural (less concentrated) pastures. The population is represented by the map of total population, urban and rural population, population density and built up area. The spatial resolution is 5 minutes of arc (about 85 square kilometers at the equator). This dataset only contains data of some years (0AD, 1000AD, 2000AD, 1000BC, 5000BC, 10000BC). Please contact us for data of other years. The spatial resolution is 5 minutes of arc (about 85 km2 at the equator).
